The scriptures tell us that nothing is impossible with God. As supernatural spiritual beings, we are not limited by what is physically impossible; however, God is not a genie. We stand on what God has promised in his word, and we must understand that we are also subject to God’s timing. We cannot expect God to do something that is not in his will or that is not in keeping with his nature. 

We must understand and believe that there is nothing impossible with God. “And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible.” (Mark 10:27). Eventually we will face obstacles that are physically impossible to overcome. That is when our faith is tested the most. But we know that God created all things by his word, and all things are sustained by his word. Therefore, all things are subject to God’s word. “Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.” (Hebrews 11:3).

In the book of 2 Kings, we read of a woman who came to the prophet Elisha with a serious problem. Her husband had died, and she owed creditors. The woman had no money to pay. This account is found in 2 Kings 4:1-7:

Now there cried a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets unto Elisha, saying, Thy servant my husband is dead; and thou knowest that thy servant did fear the Lord: and the creditor is come to take unto him my two sons to be bondmen. And Elisha said unto her, What shall I do for thee? tell me, what hast thou in the house? And she said, Thine handmaid hath not any thing in the house, save a pot of oil. Then he said, Go, borrow thee vessels abroad of all thy neighbours, even empty vessels; borrow not a few. And when thou art come in, thou shalt shut the door upon thee and upon thy sons, and shalt pour out into all those vessels, and thou shalt set aside that which is full. So she went from him, and shut the door upon her and upon her sons, who brought the vessels to her; and she poured out. And it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said unto her son, Bring me yet a vessel. And he said unto her, There is not a vessel more. And the oil stayed. Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, Go, sell the oil, and pay thy debt, and live thou and thy children of the rest.

We see from this passage that God supernaturally provided for this woman. Notice that she responded to God’s word spoken through the prophet. She believed God’s word and acted upon it. She received a miracle because she was not moved by the impossibility of the situation. She believed God’s word. 

When we believe based on God’s word, nothing is impossible. There is no situation we can’t overcome, and there is no enemy we cannot defeat. “Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out? And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.” (Matthew 17:19-20).

An important fact that we must consider is that God is not a genie. We do not command God or tell him what to do. To walk in faith is to believe what God himself has said, and to do what God himself has told us to do. We do not use our spiritual influence to command an omnipotent God. “And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God. For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.” (Mark 11:22-24).

Some believe in a concept called “receiving a word from God.” As we meditate on God’s word, God can then speak that word back to us. This usually does not mean that we hear an audible voice, but we know in our spirit that God has spoken his word back to us. Romans 10:17 states, “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” In this verse, we see a reference to God speaking to the human spirit. Until we receive a word from God, we do not have the authority to stand on a particular promise. This also applies to prayer requests. We cannot “name and claim” something that God did not tell us that we could have. As spiritual beings, we do have some level of supernatural power, and we can do some things by simply following spiritual principles. However, the walk of faith is to allow God to work through us; it is not trying to create our own reality by ourselves. “But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.” (Matthew 4:4).

God has a season, or time, for all things to manifest. This does not mean that we wait for God to answer our prayers. Once we receive confirmation from God’s Spirit that our request has been answered, our answer is actually a spiritual reality. We believe that we receive when we ask and not when we see the results. However, God will appoint a season for the physical manifestation of your answer. We must wait on God’s timing and not grow impatient if we do not see immediate results. 

Christians must believe on God’s word in order to see the miraculous. We do not try to manipulate God, we act on what God himself has promised. Do not allow physical impossibilities to cause your belief to waiver. Stay focused on God’s word, and you will see God’s power and experience his deliverance.
