God, through his word, tells us of may spiritual attributes that are essential to our success in life. The Bible speaks of faith, love, and hope. But one of the most important spiritual attributes is the attribute of wisdom. God says that wisdom is more important to your life than silver and gold. “Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding. For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold. She is more precious than rubies: and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her. Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and honour.” (Proverbs 3:13-16).
The Bible often speaks of wisdom as if it were a living being. This may be because wisdom sometimes refers directly to the Holy Spirit. God’s Spirit is the Spirit of Wisdom. “I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was. When there were no depths, I was brought forth; when there were no foundations abounding with water. Before the mountains were settled, before the hills was I brought forth: While as yet t\he had not made the earth, nor the fields, nor the highest part of the dust of the world. When he prepared the heavens, I was there: when he set a compass upon the face of the depth:” (Proverbs 8:23-27).
Wisdom is one of the most important spiritual qualities that you can possess. Having and using wisdom can stop many problems and issues from ever taking place. We often get into trouble because we do things that are not wise, and we do not look at the full scope of our actions. Wisdom protects us by guiding our choices and directing our actions.
There is a difference between human wisdom and God’s wisdom. God’s wisdom is what we need to seek. Human wisdom is limited to human experience and a temporal view. God knows everything, and the wisdom that he provides has the advantage of being perfect because it comes from an eternal and all knowing source. “There is a way that seemeth right unto man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.” Proverbs 14:12).
Spiritual wisdom is obtained by studying God’s word. God’s word is full of wisdom. When we read God’s word, we start to think like God. Our thoughts take on a heavenly nature, and our perspective becomes more eternally centered. We must read God’s word every day. The wise Christian will begin and end their day in God’s word. “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.” (Joshua 1:8-9).
“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” (Proverbs 3:5-6). Wisdom comes from listening to God’s Spirit and committing every area of our lives to him. Pray about every area of your life, and invite God into it. He will then begin to give you direction in that area.
Seek after wisdom more than silver and gold. Stay in God’s word day and night, and seek direction from his Spirit.
we all need to keep asking the Lord to give us His wisdom and Insight….we need it every step….every day. Thank you for the reminder.
