Most Christians go through periods of doubting God’s plan for their lives. They feel that God is not always on their side, and they have questions concerning why God allows certain situations to occur. Or, they wonder why God does not bring particular blessings into their lives. So, in prayer, we tend to debate with God and offer up advice to God on how things should be done.

Our debate with God concerning how he manages our lives ends when we realize 5 key truths: God can’t lie, God knows everything, God is just, God gives us some responsibility in exercising dominion over our lives, and God does not change.

From the scriptures we learn that God cannot lie. Titus 1:2 reads, “In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began.” From this verse we not only see that God does not lie, but we learn that God cannot lie. Therefore, if our life does not seem to reflect scriptural truth, we need to correct how we are living instead of trying to find fault with God’s word. In other words, the problem is not with God, it is with us. And, we can believe God’s word and know that what is written is true. There is a term used to describe God in terms of one of his divine attributes, this term is “omniscient.”

God is omniscient, he knows everything. Psalm 147:5 reads, “Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite.” God deals with us from a perspective of knowing all things. He sees the past, present, and future. And his intellect is far beyond what any being could even begin to comprehend. God does things concerning his children that we can’t understand; we are extremely limited compared to the Almighty. We have to trust God with circumstances that we just can’t understand.

God’s omniscience also assures us that God cannot make a mistake. The problems and issues in our lives are not the result of God’s error in judgment. Before time began, God knew the outcome of his intervention, or nonintervention, in our lives. God is also just.

Deuteronomy 32:4 tells us, “He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he.” God does not deal with anyone or anything unfairly. This is especially true concerning his children. God will never do you wrong! If something is a burden in your life, it is not God trying to hurt you. God is dealing with you fairly and according to the principles of his kingdom. God has also given his children the responsibility of using the power and authority that he has given us.

Prayer is as vital to our inner life as food is to our physical being. However, God did not instruct us to “only” pray about our problems. “For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.” (Mark 11:23, KJV). We have been given both power and authority by God. It is our responsibility to use what God has given us. In this scripture, read verses 22 to 25 for the context, God did not say to pray to him about our mountain. We are to speak to the mountain ourselves. Yes, we have prayed about the mountain. But there is a time for us to do something about it.

Many times we are waiting on God to move in our lives, and God is waiting on us! God does not fight all of our battles. Many times we must fight our own battles using the authority, power, and wisdom given to us by God.

The last point is an important one; we need to get a mindset that says, “I will change and line up with God.” Do not expect God to take a deep breath, sigh, and then say, “OK, I will do it your way.” You will be waiting a very long time if you expect this to happen. God is not the one who needs to change, we are. Do not expect God to change who he is and go against his character. He will not do it. Allow the Holy Spirit to examine you and to show you what “you” must do in order to walk in victory.

Understand God’s goodness and who he is. Also, discover God’s character through his word. Stop trying to fight against God, you will not win. Instead, come in agreement with God’s word, and let your life line up with his will.
